Since Molly and I like the Carrera so much, we could not bring ourselves to use the Subaru everytime we wanted to go somewhere with Renée. The car seats fit the tiny back seat but there was no good way to attach them properly. A little bit of engineering and I was set. Ask Renée which car she likes best? :)

Both my infant and toddler seats fit fine in the rear seats of my 87 Carrera if the seat back is removed, but they do not fasten securely without additional hardware. With the help of two $2 turnbuckles I was able to fasten them tightly.

Normally the seat belt buckles are too far forward to prevent forward movement of a child seat. When they are rotated vertically they can hold a seat down, but nothing prevents them from rotating forward. To stop this forward rotational movement I anchored the seat belt buckles to the seat back mount points using a turnbuckle on each side, simple and effective.

This turnbuckle holds the seat belt vertically. The belt is threaded through the turnbuckle. The rear seatback was removed and the eye hook is bolted into the newly freed bolt hole using the original seat back bolt. This bolt was very difficult to remove. For some reason the bolt's slot is very thick, about 1/8 of an inch; a normal flathead will not grip it. I ended up buying a special 3/8 inch flathead socket attachment at sears for $6.49. This most expensive part# is Craftsman 42653.

This turnbuckle which holds the inner seat belt buckle vertical has a hook on each end. The inner one hooks into the slot where the rear seat back swiveled. The outer hook is larger and simply hooks around the seat buckle. This makes it rather easy to remove when undoing the belt.
